LET MY BROTHER LIVE

(A poem I wrote for my brother Kenneth “Haramia” Foster Jr.)

Let my brother live

What has he done to you

You

Who has killed

and killed

and killed

Innocent men, women, and children

You

Need to lay on that gurney

You

Need that needle

I bet if he made you some money

You’ll keep him alive

Damn snakes

You

Have the nerve to step on the poor

Imperialistic bastard

How do you justify killing a man of his stature

You know he showed you

What you said he couldn’t do

CHANGE

He is the black Robin Hood

Took from the oppressor and gave to the oppressed

Took what

Knowledge, understanding, education

That’s why

That’s why you try

That’s why you try to murder my brother

You have a history of it

You’ve killed some of the best

Now you try to kill one of the best

Do it like a man

Go hand-to-hand

I’ll never understand

He has everything to give

Let my brother live
