Letter #3 by Roy Pippin March 3, 2007

Saturday 3:05pm

Dear Deborah:

Thank you for your card and letter. Sometimes my blunt - but honest - statements turn people off to where they don't write back or act on the info I send them. It's kind of my way of weeding out the good guys & girls from the flakes. So - Hello 'Good Gal'. (smile)

I did receive another letter from a Jennie D. [name left out purposely for privacy reasons] in England (already) so it's obvious your website/page reaches people. With that said I want to ask a favor of you. R.D. [if you want to contact this person email me at djkendrick@comcast.net] is on death watch with a 4/26/07 date. He gets NO visits, hardly any mail, and "trust me" - he has experienced a life you & I cannot begin to imagine. Gangs, first murder at 12, etc. I'm asking for you to post his name to get letters & hopefully visits. He is in pain - whether he realizes it or not - and you can see the twitch in his eyes every time visits are called and mail is passed out. I would consider it a major favor of you and your followers to help (try to) make his last days on earth more enjoyable than his life has been.

The mystery best friend of almost 28 years is Nancy Bailey. I'm sure you know the name. She had never been involved in any type of anti-DP or any other cause before I caught this case. She does not share the same views as you and your guys. She is all about showing we should be sentenced to life (my worst nightmare) because we have redeeming values even if we committed heinous crimes. I've told you my views on baby rapists, etc. Nancy is one of the most loving & caring women I've ever know and she gets things done for the men on DR. I seriously doubt ya'll could join together on efforts, since the methods used vary so much, but she is a great supporter of prison reform & to stop the DP. She is also trying to fine R.D. pen pals/visitors for his last few months. So far - one has written and plans to visit from Minnesota - but R.D. forever on Level Two so he will only get a regular visit.

Which leads me to my most recent slam of these suckers (smile). I'm down to 8 stamps - and I usually keep 50+ because they only let us make store once every two weeks. Guys with dates write letters a lot more than most. I spent over $35 in postage to mail out my legal mail. The last two huge envelopes went out Thursday. My lawyer shingle is officially off the door. (smile) I've written Major Nelson but it all falls back to Warden Asshole Hirsch (oops, sorry, rectum - I meant no offense comparing you - big ass smile). [a private joke between Roy and I] Lets just use the initials S.D.S. for him from now on. Somehow I think you can figure out what it stands for.

Complaint two: Sleep depravation has been constituted to evolve to torture. I recreated at 1:30am to 3:30am and then from 7am - 9am "Because S.D.S. insists all death watch men rec in "A" Section only or outs us on our day for outside. Do the math - 12 guys X 2 hours = 24 hours a day of yelling, slamming doors/gates, and worst of all is the hateful guards doing shakedowns all hours of the night. Mine will stop here in a few weeks - once my cousin comes to visit - but they did Nichols-Bey and Beto (Perez) last night/morning out of a dead sleep. It's pitiful.

Complaint #3: The bullying, loud mouth guards they let back here. Back in 2001, after 20+ days on my protest and hunger strike, Alexander came on the intercom to say: 19 cell, Pippin in 19 cell, "Are ya hungry?" And another time he passed out trays he would stand there like an idiot smacking his lips & acting like the 6 days a week pancakes were a treat. Well, he came in 3/1 to get C. Smith for dialysis treatment and started screaming insults about all of us - but plucking on Smith (Shadow) mercilessly. I'm me - I can't shut up. Shadow had been provoked by a guard jacking his rec & shower & threw coffee from way across his cell at the guard. He got Level 3 but Major Nelson did the right thing (only because Shadow refused his treatments - and was a lawsuit waiting to happen) and gave him back his Level One status. Alexander kept yelling to watch out - he will chunk on you - all these guys will. I confronted him and told him to shut up. He literally came in front of my cell and started screaming for me to throw on him - over and over - trying to incite me to violence. Then he got my attention. He said he would roll the door and beat "my mother-fucking white ass"! Deborah - I have never snitched on a prisoner or guard. Ever. I'm sending Major Nelson his comments, verbatim, and giving the other guards present names, all of our row who heard it, and asking that the punk be fired. If he will do it to me - he will do it to every one else. It's weird because we actually kidded about his "Are you hungry" comments from back in 2001 on several occasions. I never knew he was a racist.

And #4, last but not least. No matter what type violation a DR prisoner had done in the past - most wardens/majors/Lts, etc. give back level one status to men with they get dates. Cases like not shaving (Donnie), drinking & making wine, smoking weed, jacking a bean slot or yard to stand up for ones self, etc. Well S.D.S. will not allow Gutierrez, Dickson, Parr and others they already murdered up to where they can have commissary, a radio to listen to, a hot pot for hot coffee & food, 2 hours a day rec, and worst of all - no special visits & only 2 visits a month. It's pitiful. They DO allow some to keep some possessions they could take if they wanted to - but come on - it's their last months, weeks, days of their lives.

You were wrong My Dear - you wrote this letter 2/25/07 so I was on day 6 or 7 when you wrote it. It's day 13 now. I've gone from 264 to 243 so far. It's a real pain to be weighed everyday but I will let it happen until I can't. Major Nelson stopped "the chain and shackle shuffle" after I wrote saying I'd worn my last chains of my life until they came to drag me away. She got them to weigh me in the hall and do the blood pressure check and UA at my cell. So, some rank will show compassion. I've never put ALL guards & rank down as being despotic. Oh, believe me, she can be - but not in this case.

I can't remember if I told you but something may be cooking in my case. It might be wishful thinking but the law library said the CCA subpoenaed all my legal records. So they might be looking at something. At this point - I don't care either way - but it sure would make Texas look bad when a pro se prisoner from his prison cell on an antiquated PWP, got some form of relief when all the court-appointed attorneys said I had nothing worth filing. It would also help prisoners across the nation to file pro se pleadings. Then, on Tuesday they came to ask my jumpsuit size. Could be to take me to the death chamber in, but they have not asked other guys over here. It usually means a bench warrant is happening. Wouldn't that be something? I have never been given a hearing of any kind since they wrongfully convicted me.

I can't keep up with all the new names here. I don't know who that is [talking about Steven Woods] It's very sad he is here - so young! My 30 year old son - it scares me - to think it could happen to any of us if we are at the wrong place at the wrong time. George J. - never heard of him. But when I got "in the business" things had changed drastically. Well, consider yourself to have 10 now (smile) at least for a while! Your home address is safe with me. I'm a convict - I tear off return addresses & flush them. (smile)

I have several people to write - for a change - mostly due to my shutting down correspondence while doing my legal work. I may print out more copies of my "Petition for Executive Clemency". Yes, I ended up being forced to file one. My petition for extra-ordinary writ to the U.S. Supreme Court insists all forms of relief be exhausted before they will entertain my petition. It's 8 short pages of blah, blah, blah, "If you kill me you will regret it when you meet your maker".

For the first time ever - on 3/17 - I will allow a media interview. I saw a very positive article in the Houston Chronicle so I wrote the writer to say I would give one if they wanted it. A different guy is showing up. We will see how it goes.

I need to close and get on other letters. I will try to open up about me next letter - unless I have a lot more juicy death watch stuff to tell. You are welcome to use my complaints anyway you wish. I will not embellish what has happened and know better then to repeat prisoner rumors.

I wish you & Dana all the luck & peace in the world. You will both stay in my thoughts & prayers.

Peace, Love and Respects,

Roy

God Bless

P.S. 3/3 at 6:30pm - 239 lbs ;-)
